Specifications
From grain trading to cultural destination
In 1903, the Graanbeurszaal was inaugurated for trading large quantities of imported grain. Thanks to its distinctive saw-tooth glass roof, designed by Berlage, traders could perfectly assess the grain under the bright northern light.
After World War II, advancements such as the telex and telephone changed the nature of trade, shifting the role of the hall. Until 1976, the Graanbeurszaal hosted an exhibition on industrial design and even became home to the world’s first options exchange. From 1985 to 2013, the hall was transformed into a concert venue for the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra.
